BEIJING - Amanda Beard is set to appear naked before the world in an advertising campaign protesting the wearing of fur as fashion.
The 26-year-old gold medal winner, who appeared in Playboy magazine in 2007, will be featured in a campaign for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) that will debut Wednesday at the Beijing Olympics, just two days before the start of the Games, Reuters reports.
The photos will show the swimming champion posing in front of the Water Cube swimming venue.
“Seeing animals slaughtered to be worn as fashion is awful to me, so I’m definitely against wearing fur … I’d much rather go naked than ever put a dead animal on my body,” PETA quoted Beard as saying.
Beard has also graced the pages of Sports Illustrated and FHM magazines. She nabbed gold at the 2004 Athens Olympics in the 200-meter breast stroke.
PETA and Beard have scheduled a news conference in Beijing on Wednesday afternoon. AccessHollywood.com will offer for full coverage.
