KLEBERG COUNTY-Officials in Kleberg County are preparing for a big hit, mainly possible flooding. KRIS 6 News visited Alicia Castaneda back in June of 2006 where she was cleaning up after a recent flood damaged her floors and walls.
Alicia and her husband made $2,000 worth of repairs and has now raised her steps to keep the water from coming in.
Castaneda told 6 News, "We had to raise this thing up and they haven't done nothing on the streets. No drainage at all."
She is upset that the county has not done more to improve the drainage and says her house still floods when it rains heavily.
Kleberg County Judge Pete De La Garza is worried about residents in Ricardo. He told 6 News that vans are on standby in case the county needs to evacuate residents in the area and is warning people to get out while they can, adding, "I would advise that they not wait like the last time that we had a hurricane."
Sandbags are also being made available to people in Ricardo and the county has cleared ditches in Kleberg County in preparation for the storm.
There are no shelters in Kleberg County, so the family packed up their bags and headed for Laredo to stay with relatives.
