MARIANNA, Pa. - Police said they arrested a man suspected of killing his wife and two young children in their rural home in western Pennsylvania on Thursday.
Trooper Robin Mungo said a daylong manhunt ended when police took Orlando Maurice Guarino into custody. She said he is suspected of killing his wife, Ashley Guarino, 22, and their children, 2-year-old Dreux and 11-month-old Orlando Jr.
Their bodies were found early Thursday in their home in the town of Marianna. A coroner ruled the deaths homicides and said it appeared they were asphyxiated.
Mungo said Guarino, 38, was being questioned and charges would be filed later Thursday.
Orlando and Ashley Guarino had separated recently, and she had obtained an order of protection against him last month in Washington County court, authorities said.
Orlando Guarino cut lawns for a living and his wife was a waitress at a bar, according to a neighbor, Danielle Ehrhardt, who baby-sat for the couple's children.
"Anytime they talked to us, they were really happy," said Ehrhardt, 18. The husband "was always real pleasant, especially with his kids." But she said the couple had recently been in a dispute involving the care of the children.
Authorities had left the crime scene in Marianna, about 30 miles south of Pittsburgh, by midmorning Thursday. Ehrhardt remembered the slain boy was just learning how to walk and loved to play with cell phones, while the 2-year-old girl needed to watch cartoons on TV to help her fall asleep.
