VERACRUZ, Mexico - Police said 14 people died late Saturday when a passenger bus crashed head-on into a minivan in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz.

Veracruz state investigator Aldo Marin said the bus was heading to the port city of Tampico when it tried to pass a car on a curve and smashed into the minivan, which was being used as a taxi.

Marin said that the dead include the driver of the van and 10 of his passengers. The other three victims were traveling on the bus.

He said 20 other people were injured in the accident near the town of Tantoyuca.
