The deal
Autumn normally brings reduced rates for trans-Atlantic travel but these economic fall air and hotel packages to European capitals are among the best we’ve seen. Even with the weak state of the dollar, these vacations are priced to go, from $661!

Six nights in London from $1,029
Anglophiles won’t want to miss the six-night air and hotel offer from Virgin Vacations: packages for travel between Sept. 6 and Oct. 24 from New York start at $1,029! The per-person price, based on double occupancy, includes budget accommodations with private bath; continental breakfast daily; and all hotel taxes and service charges. Four-night Parisian visit from $789
Looking for a four-night jaunt to Paris? From Oct. 31 to Dec. 15, a city getaway from Virgin Vacations runs from just $789, with airfare, hotel accommodations and continental breakfast included. If you can’t wait that long, note that base prices for travel Sept. 1-Oct. 25 increase modestly to $869. Add at least $360 for a superior category. Quotes are per person and based on double occupancy, and airport charges are additional.

Four nights in Dublin from $661
Prefer a trip to the Emerald Isle? A four-night stay at the three-star Mont Clare on Merrion Square, once frequented by James Joyce, plus airfare from New York starts at $951 for travel in September, but drops to $661 from November to March 2009. The price is per person, based on double occupancy and does not include airport taxes, which can vary between $75 and $150. Package prices staying at the five-star Westbury are from $1,407 in September and $1,071 in November.

The dollars
Given airfare costs and regular room rates for the dates, the savings delivered with the packages are substantial.

The catch
The weak dollar.
