Arrest made in shooting of pregnant bank teller

INDIANAPOLIS - Authorities in Indiana have arrested a suspect in the shooting of a pregnant bank teller, a shooting that caused her to later lose her twin fetuses.

Police arrested Brian Kendrick, 29, on several charges, including attempted murder and two counts of feticide, in the April 22 bank robbery. 

The teller, Katherin Shuffield, 30, was five months pregnant with twins when she was shot in the abdomen. The gunman had jumped over the teller's station and fired just after the bank opened for the day. Two days after the shooting, the woman lost her twin girls.

Police also arrested Aaron Stewart, 28, on a charge of conspiracy to commit robbery for allegedly helping Kendrick.  Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi said both men were jailed under a 72-hour hold and he expected his office to file formal charges against them on Monday.

Kendrick could face a possible 20 to 50 years in prison if convicted of attempted murder. Each feticide charge carries a possible sentence of two to eight years.

Current Indiana law allows prosecutors to charge people with murder in cases where a fetus dies, but only if the mother is at least seven months pregnant.

Police and prosecutors said it was unclear whether the men had attorneys.
