John McEnroe vs. Mats Wilander (1989)
John McEnroe earned a spot in the Wimbledon for the seventh time in 1989, defeating Mats Wilander in four sets in the quarterfinals. He needed three hours and 52 minutes to top the Swede. In three of the four sets, Wilander used early breaks to take 2-0 leads, but each time McEnroe broke back. The American broke Wilander's serve nine times throughout the match. McEnroe's concentration was even more impressive considering the trying weekend he had; after he lived up to his "Superbrat" nickname with outburst in his fourth round match, McEnroe received four death threats and was sprayed in the face with air freshener by an angry fan.
