Goran Ivanisevic vs. Patrick Rafter (2001)
Just two months shy of his 30th birthday, Goran Ivanisevic needed a wild card just to make it into the 2001 Wimbledon field. At the end of the fortnight, he had pulled off an improbable run to the finals and become the first wild-card champion in the tournament's history. He met Patrick Rafter in the championship match, and the two battled for three hours and one minute before Ivanisevic claimed an emotional 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 2-6, 9-7 victory. Played on People's Monday as rain had played havoc with the schedule that year, the packed house was enthralled with the heart both players showed, and the atmosphere contributed to making it one of the top sporting moments ever at the All England Club.
