It's getting hot in here — for Midwest, East

Much of the Midwest and East Coast were told to expect a heat wave this weekend — up to 110 degrees in places when the high humidity is factored in — capping a week of crazy weather across the country.

Coastal areas were likely to see temperatures in the mid-90s and heat-index values that make it feel like it's in the 100s.

Evening temperatures weren't expected to dip below the 70s until the heat breaks on Monday.

In the Washington, D.C., area some 21,000 utility customers were still without power after a Wednesday storm. Many of those could see power out for a few more days, just as the weather heats up.

Utility companies across the region urged residents to conserve energy so as to avoid blackouts over the weekend.

Heat was already plaguing crews in southwestern Ohio on Friday as they worked — feverishly — to restore power after thunderstorms and tornadoes earlier in the week.

Cincinnati declared a heat alert and opened cooling centers.
