LOS ANGELES - She’s already played opposite one British super spy in “Austin Powers,” but Beyonce is now ready to step into the legendary 007 franchise, as well.

Beyonce is in the running for the next James Bond theme, according to several reports out of the UK, after trouble emerged with British soul-singer Amy Winehouse.

Originally, producers had reportedly asked Amy Winehouse to record a track. But while the embattled soul singer made some studio visits with producer Mark Ronson, he pulled the plug on their sessions together, judging by comments he told Britain’s Sky News earlier this month.

“We did work on it, but we never finished it,” Ronson said. “I don’t think it will happen unless by some miracle it gets recorded and someone sings vocals.”

Last week, however, Winehouse said she had completed some Bond music, though it wasn’t clear if the songs were with Ronson or another artist.

“I’ve done loads of Bond songs I’m really happy with. I don’t know what the problem is,” the UK’s Daily Express quoted her as saying.

Over the weekend, famed ‘80s band the Pet Shop Boys appeared to offer their services to Winehouse for the theme.

“She’s got a few things to sort out first but we like her very much,” Pet Shop Boys singer Neil Tennant allegedly told Britain’s The Sun. “Technically she’s a great singer and we’ve got one or two tracks that would really suit her.”

On Tuesday, however, the Pet Shop Boys management lashed out at the story claiming the report was “totally made up.”

The decision over whether Beyonce will record the theme is in the hands of Barbara Broccoli, according to the Express. Broccoli is the daughter of the late “Bond” producer Cubby Broccoli.

The next installment of the “Bond” series - “Quantum Of Solace” - is set to premiere in late October.
