Mariah plans to have extravagant nuptials soon

Plans for Mariah Carey’s second wedding to husband Nick Cannon are well underway, and this time around, Carey plans to make her nuptials an over-the-top event, according to a source close to the singer.

“It’s going to be held in New York City in the next six weeks. Picture a wedding on the scale of Liza Minnelli’s (to David Gest) and you’ll be on the right track,” said the source.

Carey last week told Ellen DeGeneres that the wedding would be next year, and the guests at her Bahamian ceremony were "mainly people there to do my hair and help me with the dress,” which certainly won’t be the case for part deux.

“She wants over 2,000 guests and the budget will be well over $4 million and she’ll have at least 14 bridesmaids,” the source revealed. One name already said to be confirmed on the guest list: Naomi Campbell. We can’t wait.

McCain takes Manhattan
May 17 was a packed day for presidential hopeful John McCain. He started out by grabbing breakfast at Sarabeth’s on Central Park South, where he was joined by Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Later in the day, he sat down with Glamour magazine editor Cindi Leive and talked about, among other things, whether Sen. Hillary Clinton has been treated as a woman on the campaign trail.

“You know, I don't know because I'm not objective enough to make the judgment. I simply don't know. But I know the one thing that I try to avoid in my campaigns is feeling sorry for myself. It's easy to do, pick up the paper this morning, read a story that's negative, oh, my God, they're picking on me. You just can't do that. Then, it was off to his “Saturday Night Live” appearance. McCain was a no-show at the show’s after party, but cast member Seth Meyers vouched for his performance. “He was amazing. He’s always so much fun to have on the show.”

Weekend box office
This weekend was an easy one: “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” was No. 1 at the box office, but the flick didn’t live up to its weekend estimates. “Prince Caspian” made only $56.6 million this weekend. The first installment, “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe,” took in $65 million during its debut weekend in 2005. One reason for the drop might be that “Prince Caspian” is a much darker film with a great deal of fighting, and therefore it didn’t have the broad family appeal of the first film. “Iron Man” continued to do well — it came in at No. 2 with $31.2 million.

Celebrity sightings
In New York City: On May 10, Natasha Bedingfield rocked out at Andrew Warren’s Caribou Iced Coffee event to benefit the Gabrielle’s Cancer Foundation at Marquee. … Hilary Duff was seen leaving the Gansevoort Hotel in a pair of Pur Jeans on May 12. … Chase Crawford, Penn Badgley and Michelle Trachtenberg arrived in a fleet of Cadillac Escalades on May 14 at Nylon Magazine’s Young Hollywood party. Michelle Trachtenberg chose a Bellini flavor for her custom-blended Perscriptives lipgloss as Brooke Shields picked Dr. Rey's shapewear at the Lucky Club.

In Los Angeles: Christina Milian attended the May 6 launch of Victoria Secret’s new fragrance, Heavenly Kiss, at Beso. … Joel Madden picked up Altec Lansing's Swarovski-encrusted iPod earphones for Nicole Richie at the Coachella Music Festival retreat in Palm Springs on May 8.  That same day, Brooke Shields and Mena Suvari attended the Jonathan Kelsey for Mulberry Preview. ... Lauren Conrad and Alessandra Ambrosia were spotted at Luckyfish in Beverly Hills on May 9.
