BEAUMONT, Texas - A Texas teenager who refused to let police extract a bullet lodged in his forehead has struck a plea deal that caps his punishment at 10 years in prison.

Prosecutors wanted the bullet to prove Joshua Bush tried to kill the owner of a used-car lot. But Bush and his attorney fought the removal because they said it violated Bush's civil rights.

Police said Bush tried to shoot auto dealer Alan Olive, and when Olive returned fire, a bullet struck Bush and burrowed into the soft, fatty tissue of his forehead.

TV station KFDM reported that Bush was set to go to trial today, but before jury selection began, he pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated assault and deadly conduct.

Bush is set to be sentenced in June.
