SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Fire crews, with the help of a sprinkler system, have contained a fire that broke out at Building 24 at the Spokane Industrial Park in the Valley Sunday morning.
Officials say the fire started at a forklift and spread to packaging materials which ignited, spreading the fire.
The fire was contained to a forklift and surrounding packaging products. The products suffered heavy smoke and water damage, but no injuries were reported.
Deputy Fire Marshal Bill Clifford said that many buildings in the area are older and the Spokane Valley Department has been working hard to get them updated, to include sprinkler systems. He attributes the the successful containment of the fire to the installation of the building's sprinkler system.
The building belongs to IEDS, a company which warehoues industrial building and construction products .
About 30 Valley and City firefighters responded to the scene. Officials will be investigating the cause of the fire.
