Is Ron Paul having a change of heart when it comes to John McCain?
Less than two weeks after he refused to support the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Paul has agreed to be a keynote speaker at Saturday's Nevada State Republican Party Convention.
The Texas congressman, who finished second in the Nevada Caucuses, recently told the Chicago Tribune he wouldn't back McCain unless the Senator has "has a lot of change of heart."
During the Republican debates, both candidates were frequently at odds over the war in Iraq. In one memorable exchange, McCain compared Paul's "attitude of isolationism" to the cause of World War II and the rise of Adolf Hitler. As audience members cheered and booed Paul could be seen shaking his head at McCain. Watch the video here.
Paul has vowed to continue campaigning despite the mathematical impossibility of catching McCain in delegates. Currently he holds 21 pledged delegates; McCain has surpassed the 1,191 needed for the nomination with 1,331.
McCain, having long secured the nomination, has not announced plans to return for the Nevada convention. His former opponent Mitt Romney won the contest; he is expected to appear and voice his support for the Arizona senator.
Paul's campaign won't say whether McCain should expect similar support. A statement from communications coordinator Jennifer Terhune states the visit only "Reflects Dr. Paul's continued commitment to the presidential race and to the traditional conservative movement in the Republican Party."
The Nevada Republican Party State Convention will be held Saturday, April 26th, at the Peppermill Hotel Casino in Reno.
