Porker of the Month is a dubious honor given to lawmakers, government officials, and political candidates who have shown a blatant disregard for the interests of taxpayers, by the Citizens Against Government Waste.

(WASHINGTON, DC) April 22 --

For the month of April, two of the most vocal opponents of awarding an Air Force contract for the manufacturing of the KC-45 refueling tanker to Northrop Grumman/EADS, have been chosen for the award. Reps. Norm Dicks (D-Wash.) and Todd Tiahrt (R-Kans.) were picked by CAGW for threatening to reverse the $35 billion Air Force contract award to Northrop Grumman. The losing bidder, the Boeing Corporation, has large facilities in both congressmen's districts.

Citizens Against Government Waste sited Rep. Dicks threat reported by the Wall Street Journal when he said, "We're going to try to eliminate the funding." He went on to call the Air Force decision "one of the worst . in modern history." Meanwhile, The Chicago Tribune reported that Rep. Tiahrt said, "I don't think the current contract can go forward."

The citizen watchdog group in announcing their choice for the Porkers of the Month for April 2008 said: "These members of Congress and others promoting parochial interests are meddling with the defense procurement process to the detriment of taxpayers across the country."
