How much pain at the pump can you stand? Four dollar per gallon gas was predicted for the summer. We could see it before Memorial Day.

SHOREWOOD - How much pain at the pump can you stand? Four dollar per gallon gas was predicted for the summer. We could see it before Memorial Day. MilwaukeeGasPrices.com reports a gallon of unleaded selling for $3.79 at some stations in the Milwaukee area. That's up 52 cents from a month ago. Last year at this time we were paying $2.84. Events overseas are driving up what you pay at the pump, and that's driving up other costs. We're getting closer and closer to $4. Monday, crude oil hit an all time high, which means our prices could go again very soon. Gas used to be $3.59 at an area BP station. That was just five days ago. Monday, it was $3.69, 10 cents higher. "You cut back on some of your going out to eat, some of your other consumption. You've got less money to do some of the activities you like to,” Joe Ruppel said. The news gets worse: attacks on pipelines in Nigeria and a tanker near Yemen this weekend are expected to have a big impact in Milwaukee. When oil supplies abroad are threatened, worry over the supply sends the price of oil higher. Then, the prices back home skyrocket, and this all happens in a couple of days." Some consumers are skeptical about world events instantly affecting prices in Milwaukee. "It just seems like the oil companies are using those type of things to raise the prices as an excuse,” Kat Grinker said. Experts say going into the summer, gas prices will be getting worse, and getting worse soon. "Make no mistake about it, we are now in the midst of the greatest gasoline price run up in the history of the nation,” Consumer Federation of America’s Mark Cooper said. This leaves many drivers feeling helpless against what's becoming an even bigger drain on their wallets. “You just gotta suck it up, grin and bear it, and move on,” Joe Ruppel said. TODAY’S TMJ4’s Michael George spoke to a representative from AAA Wisconsin Monday. They do believe prices will go up, but right now they don't predict regular gas will go above $4.
