MEXICO CITY - A military helicopter crashed Friday in western Mexico, killing at least nine people, state officials said.

One person remained in serious condition after the accident outside the city of Uruapan, said Carlos Mandujano, director of the state's civil protection services. He added that crews were still pulling bodies from the wreckage.

Mandujano said state officials were trying to find out how many people were aboard the helicopter. Defense Department authorities said they had no information on the accident or its cause.
