Whatever “Sex and the City’s” Cynthia Nixon was paid for being in the upcoming film version of the hit HBO series, she deserves a raise.

The actress let it slip to host Billy Eichner during the Creation Nation comedy show at the Zipper Theater on Apr. 15 that “a character dies in the movie.” And in turn, Nixon made the SATC movie — dare we say — interesting.

Nixon refused to divulge who dies, opening the door for the blog world to start positing its own theories. Among the favorites:

  • New York magazine’s Daily Intel Blog, which settles on Charlotte (cause of death: “freak tennis accident”) because it “can’t think of a reason not to kill Charlotte.”
  • The Vulture blog, also from NY magazine, puts its money on Mr. Big. “Big's death will end the first act of the movie, which will be followed by a tasteful period of mourning, and then a montage. Carrie will end the movie sad, but plucky, with a new (or old!) guy on the horizon and the prospect for sequels bright.”

Not a bad theory at all, but Scoop will refrain from conjecture for now and be pleased to think that maybe there is a plot twist out there that can be kept mostly secret.

Another day, another pregnancy rumor. This time, Liz Hurley is at the center of speculation. When her longtime friend Elton John ran up to Hurley at the Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s Hottest Pink Party Ever in NYC on April 8, Life & Style magazine reports that John then “rubbed her tummy,” and he raised his eyebrows.

“Elton kissed and hugged Elizabeth and congratulated Arun,” a witness told the magazine. “They seemed to be giggling over their little secret.” Hurley also wore a tummy-covering sari to the event and, said the witness, abstained from alcohol.

If the magazine is off the mark, it might be time for a denial or at least a dress with a waistline.

While former ’N Sync band member JC Chasez publicly shot down stories of a romance with buddy Chace Crawford, the “Gossip Girl” star finds them funny. “Chace is laughing about the JC rumors!” Candice Crawford, Chace’s sister, told In Touch at the On Top of Cloud 9 clothing launch in Las Vegas on April 2. “They have the same manager, and that’s why they are always hanging out.” Candice also mentioned that Chace, 22, and ex-girlfriend Carrie Underwood “still talk, but are just friends.”

“Chace is really happy being single now,” a friend tells In Touch

Weekend box office
Three big releases are scheduled for this weekend. “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” is a fun, goofy comedy from the Judd Apatow folks that will have a pretty broad appeal, and Al Pacino is finally back in a leading role in “88 Minutes.” But the box-office winner this weekend, I predict, will be “The Forbidden Kingdom,” which stars Jackie Chan and Jet Li. With two big headliners like that and distribution in more than 3,000 theaters, it seems like it can’t miss the No. 1 slot. Expect last week’s “Prom Date” to continue to do well also.
