Passengers sue Southwest Airlines

Four fliers file federal lawsuit against carrier over missed inspections

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Four passengers are suing Southwest Airlines in federal court over flights by dozens of planes that missed inspections during a period of about six years.

The lawsuit filed in Birmingham, Ala., seeks class-action status. Its claims include breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and negligent and reckless operation of an aircraft.

The suit filed Friday contends the class likely covers more than 10,000 people.

It seeks compensatory and punitive damages from the Dallas-based airline.
