Bears still interested in Simms
It doesn’t get much more depressing for Bears fans than a quarterback competition between Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton, but the team is still interested in Tampa Bay quarterback Chris Simms. The Bucs currently have five QBs, and with Simms and his visor-wearing coach feuding, Simms isn’t long for Florida. (Chicago Sun-Times)
NFL coaches scouting new offense
There’s a new style of offense being run in high schools in California called the A-11. Basically, it involves a center, two quarterbacks, two tight ends and then a lot of pandemonium. Both college and NFL coaches have headed west to see the system in action. (Yahoo! Sports)
Packers and Favre nearing deal
Rumor has it that Green Bay and semi-retired QB Brett Favre are close to agreeing on a deal that would have the team giving Favre a list of teams that would trade for him and Favre picking his pleasure. One of the issues for other teams, apparently, is that Favre won't learn whole offensive playbooks. He reportedly likes to run the same plays over and over again, which could drive some offensive coordinators crazy. (Yahoo! Sports)
Chiefs and top pick Dorsey can't come to agreement
Kansas City has cut off talks with its first-round pick, defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, since his agent won't negotiate at all. Fifth overall pick Dorsey apparently promised team president Carl Peterson that he would be in camp on time. Looks like he's going to break that promise. (Kansas City Star)
Pennington back in the pocket for Jets?
Chad Pennington appeared to get fully dumped by the Jets last season when Kellen Clemens took over the starting-quarterback slot in Game 8, but Clemens didn't exactly set the world on fire and the word is that Pennington may be the man to beat for starting snaps when the season gets underway instead of Clemens. (New York Post)
Titans and Haynesworth getting closer on deal
Tennessee and franchise player Albert Haynesworth have reportedly decided that a number of incentives will be placed in his contract that could allow him to play himself out of the franchise tag and right into unrestricted free agency next summer. The problem now is trying to figure out what the incentives should be for the defensive tackle: "playing time percentage, his statistical achievements, and the number of" W's in the Titans column at season's end are all being talked about.
