'Nosy' worker viewed stars' medical records

LOS ANGELES - A former employee at a Los Angeles hospital says she was just "being nosy" when she looked at the medical records of dozens of high-profile patients.

Lawanda J. Jackson told the Los Angeles Times she didn't leak any information she saw in the records or profit from them.

Among the records Jackson purportedly looked at without authorization were those belonging to Farrah Fawcett and Maria Shriver.

The 49-year-old administrative specialist worked at UCLA Medical Center for 32 years. Hospital officials say the employee responsible for the breaches resigned before they could fire her.

The breaches created an embarrassment for UCLA. The hospital could face sanctions from the state health department, and Jackson could face criminal charges for allegedly violating a federal privacy law.
