The photos that first revealed a friendship between Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham left people scratching their heads at what the two could possibly have in common. If, two years later, the answer still isn’t clear, look no further than the current issue of Life & Style, which claims the friends share an affinity for splitting low-calorie meals meant for one.

The magazine reports that during a recent outing to Madeo, the duo shared a green salad sans dressing, one piece of fish and one side of steamed spinach. They also ordered one regular Coke and two glasses of ice.

“Katie poured half the soda into each of their glasses, then filled up the rest with bottled water,” a Madeo regular told the magazine.

Ryan Seacrest branches out
Those “American Idol” rejects languishing in obscurity might have a shot at extending their reality-show shelf lives: Ryan Seacrest productions posted an open casting call for a new program called “LA Shrink.”

The show, according to the Web site realitywanted.com, will follow four girlfriends “all juggling work, complicated friendships, hot Los Angeles guys and paying the rent on time.” Where does the shrink come in, you ask?

Apparently the girls in question will “take refuge in the office of their alluring male shrink … they reveal backstabbing friendships, wild roommates, heartbreak, promiscuity, problems at work, etc.”

Seacrest's rep had a "no comment" when asked just how extensive the "Idol" host's involvement might be, but with Paula Abdul talking about possibly participating in "Dancing With the Stars" and Simon Cowell's increasing impatience with the crop of "Idol" contestants, it makes sense that Seacrest would consider branching out as well.

Will Ferrell explains his nakedness
A burning question is finally answered: Why does Will Ferrell appear nude in almost all of his movies? The comedian answers, “I committed a crime in high school and it’s part of this work-release program that I have to honor with the state of California.”

OK, maybe that isn’t an answer, but it’s the best Lenny Dykstra’s Players Club Magazine could get. They also reveal one of Farrell’s more endearing habits: He plays basketball every Sunday on a team with Josh Duhamel, Sacha Baron Cohen and Donald Faison.

Kim Cattrall tapped for awards
“Sex and the City” vixen Samantha met her most substantial love interest of the series, Smith Jerrod (played by Jason Lewis), in a restaurant, so perhaps it’s fitting that Cattrall has been tapped to host the James Beard Foundation awards this June. Cattrall’s boyfriend, Alan Wyse, is a personal chef, but the release of “Sex and the City: The Movie” in May will likely do just as much to help publicize the culinary awards.

Weekend box office
If my near-perfect record comes crashing down this weekend, I’m blaming George Clooney. I make no secret of my bias for all things Clooney, but this weekend, his film “Leatherheads,” which co-stars Renee Zellweger and “Office” star John Krasinski, is going to have a tough battle at the box office. It’s up against “Nim’s Island,” the G-rated fantasy flick that stars Abigail Breslin. “Nim’s Island” opens in more than 3,400 theaters, while “Leatherheads” (which does boast the magical PG-13 rating), is opening in 2,700 theaters. The only other film in contention is horror flick “The Ruins,” which opens in 2,500 theaters. As much as it pains me, I’m going to predict that “Nim’s Island” will beat out my good friend George Clooney. But only by a little.
