Settlement reached in PS3 shooting case

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The family of a Wilmington teenager fatally shot as authorities investigated stolen video game consoles has reached a multimillion-dollar settlement.

Officials in New Hanover County said Wednesday that both sides agreed to a $2.45 million settlement in the shooting death of 18-year-old Peyton Strickland.

Strickland died in December 2006 when former sheriff's deputy Christopher Long opened fire through the front door of Strickland's home.

Strickland and a friend were suspected of beating up a University of North Carolina at Wilmington student and robbing him of two PlayStation 3s.

Sheriff Sid Causey apologized to Strickland's family Wednesday. He said he takes full responsibility for the on-duty actions of his deputies.
