NEW YORK - "Spore," the highly anticipated game from "Sims" creator Will Wright, will go on sale for PCs on the weekend of Sept. 7, video game publisher Electronic Arts Inc. said Tuesday.

Dubbed a "massively single-player" game, "Spore" lets users create a universe, evolving from tiny organisms into civilizations capable of intergalactic travel. It is one of the video game industry's most highly anticipated titles.

Shares of Electronic Arts rose $2.93, or 6.3 percent, to $49.28 in afternoon trading. The stock has ranged from $43.62 to $61.62 over the past year.
