LOS ANGELES - One person was killed when a small helicopter crashed onto a busy freeway, officials said.

The helicopter crashed Friday night on the southbound lanes of Highway 110 in south Los Angeles, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Ron Myers said.

Fire crews arrived at the scene to find the aircraft burning. One body was later found in the wreckage. The victim's identity was not immediately released.

Myers said the helicopter was possibly homemade, with just one or two seats. There were no immediate reports of any vehicles being involved in the crash.

Debris was scattered across several hundred yards of the freeway, but the California Highway Patrol reopened some lanes in both directions late Friday, Myers said.
