Let the Paula Abdul craziness begin

Although live episodes of “American Idol” are still several weeks away, many people close to judge Paula Abdul are gearing up to begin keeping track of how many assistants she will tear through during the course of the season.

“Last season it was an absolute revolving door of assistants,” said one person who spends a great deal of time with Abdul during the course of “Idol.” “I'm definitely going to try to keep count this year. Some people would last weeks, others just days. She can’t be kept happy, you never know what she’ll lash out about next.”

Speaking of rants, someone was kind enough to reveal to me the identities of the Michael, Sidney and Leslie whom Abdul referenced during her LAX meltdown. “They’re all people who managed her in one way or another. Now whether they did something recently or they were just the first people to come to mind is another thing entirely.”

Cruise bio a no-go abroad
“Tom Cruise: The Unauthorized Biography” by Andrew Morton hits shelves in the U.S. Tuesday, Jan. 15, but expect other countries to proceed more cautiously about stocking the controversial tome in their bookstores. Citing libel laws, publishers in England have declined to publish and stock the book, and according to the Sydney Morning Herald, Australia’s largest retailers are following suit.

Kate Jones, spokeswoman for bookseller Angus & Robertson, told the paper, “There are certain legal issues that have occurred overseas and with all of the risks involved we will not be stocking it.”

A decision as to whether New Zealand will sell the book is due to be made later this week.

Speaking out about being voted ‘unsexy’

Recent “unsexiest woman alive” award winner Sarah Jessica Parker has a thing or two to say to her critics. “My impression is what they find sexy doesn’t make them very interesting, or unusual or special,” Parker said in the new issue of Allure.

Whereas many actresses in her position would see an opportunity to lash out against her critics, Parker stays aboveboard in a manner many younger celebrities could stand to learn from.

“That’s the beauty of this country,” the “Sex and the City” star said. “We can have different opinions and coexist and be amused by each other and hurt and offended.”

Celebs hit auto show
The GM Style event at the Detroit Auto show attracted plenty of celebs during the Jan. 12 weekend. Mary J. Blige was spotted accepting a cupcake tower, Kid Rock and Rev. Run were caught watching the Packers game (the two kick off a tour together Jan. 25) and Adam Levine from Maroon 5 was heard saying that not only did cars draw him to the event, but expected “hot girls” as well.
