Her escapades began just after midnight Saturday, Dec. 22, when Spears, driving her Mercedes with the headlights off and the trunk open, made a trip to Rite-Aid. “I have to buy stuff for my babies,” Spears told photographers, reports People. After testing and not buying several deodorant sprays, the mag reports that she bought Lucky Charms cereal, Purex laundry detergent, chocolate chip cookies, and a 32-inch plush horse. (Is this what babies want these days? Just asking.)
The following night, Dec. 23, in the same turquoise top (sans bra) and jeans as the previous day, Britney left her home and drove to a gas station where she used the restroom and witnesses overheard her unleashing a profanity-filled tirade at a friend over her cell phone, according to OK! magazine. Spears visited two more gas-station restrooms during the next hour, and drove aimlessly around L.A. blowing through one red light after another, according to the mag.
Later that same day, Spears invited a photographer who she’s called “cute” to the Peninsula Hotel, where they stayed until Britney (and the photographer) left. Spears then returned to her house to await the arrival of her sons.
If this is Britney’s way of taking the spotlight off her impregnated 16-year-old sister, she’s doing a fine job.
‘Grey’s’ star weds
Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley kicked off their Christmas holiday by swapping vows on Dec. 23 in Deer Valley, Utah.
Not a flashy affair by Hollywood standards, the two wed in front of only about 80 friends and family. Among the guests: “Grey’s” cast member and friend T.R. Knight, who was in the wedding party, Sandra Oh, Kate Walsh and Justin Chambers. OK! magazine reports that Heigl wore a white Oscar de la Renta gown and she and Kelley wrote their own wedding vows.
Heigl recently told Vanity Fair that she didn’t have any cold feet about marrying Kelley. “I have a lot of faith in Josh, and I wanted to have that one day when I stand in front of my friends and my family and honor him and how important he is in my life,” she said.
No ambition for Simpson’s flick
Jessica Simpson’s new film “Blonde Ambition” might have set some sort of box office record last weekend. The film, which is basically a remake of “Working Girl,” had an opening day gross of only $384. Sure, it didn’t have the marketing campaign of a film like “I am Legend,” and “Blonde Ambition” only opened on eight screens in Texas, but the take of only $48 dollars per screen doesn’t bode well. And just asking: $48 per screen works out to about 6 people per theater. Doesn’t Simpson know more than six people per theater in her home state of Texas? Where’s the love for the hometown girl?
Weekend box office
All good things must come to an end. After four straight weeks of correctly predicting the winner at the box office, I’m back at square one. The winner this past holiday weekend was not “I am Legend,” as I predicted, but rather “National Treasure: Book of Secrets,” which took in $45.5 million. “Legend” did take No. 2 with $34.2 million, which brings its gross to an impressive $137.5 million. The weekend’s surprise flop was “Walk Hard,” which despite great reviews and a Golden Globe nod, earned only $4.1 million.
