Los Angeles - One hundred moms and moms-to-be were treated to a host of gifts from Nicole Richie and Joel Madden on Dec. 3.
The celebrity couple, who are expecting their own baby next month, held a shower, gifting $200,000 worth of goods to the women, People reported. Richie and Madden gave out the gifts at the LA Free Clinic as part of their Richie Madden Children’s Foundation.
“We grew up in Los Angeles,” Madden told People, “and we want our child to be a part of the community, and to know that there’s a responsibility to help the community.”
Richie told reporters she was thrilled by the reaction of the baby shower.
“The looks on their faces were priceless,” she said. “Some of them didn’t even believe us. They thought we were joking.”
Madden was also pleased by the turnout.
“Sometimes people don’t want to believe that me and Nicole are just a young couple having a baby and we’re really excited,” he said. “We don’t really get to share our lives with people. It’s nice to connect with people on a real level.”
