LOS ANGELES - Britney Spears appears to believe imitation is the highest form of flattery.

In the new video for her latest single, “Piece of Me,” Britney appears alongside a gaggle of Britney look-alikes, wearing matching blonde wigs, black trench coats and black berets.

The premise of the video is an all too familiar scene for the paparazzi darling.

“The paparazzi are following (Britney), so they’re dressed alike to trick them,” a source close to Spears tells People. “They all go into a club to get away. One (photographer) sneaks in, but Britney, in the end, discovers him.”

Britney apparently wasn’t in a rush to share the spotlight with her look-alikes, as she reportedly arrived to the video shoot 12 hours late.

The pop star was scheduled to shoot the video bright and early at 8 a.m. Tuesday, but she was nowhere to be seen, according to a report by OK! Magazine.

Britney was reportedly still at her Beverly Hills home, while a video crew was across town at the club Social Hollywood awaiting the pop star’s arrival.

Britney reportedly didn’t show up until 8:33 p.m., more than 12 hours after the video shoot was scheduled to start.

Will the elaborate video with a pack of Britney clones help her struggling album sales?

“(Spears) is really freaked out about everything,” a source close to the pop star told People. “She’s just really nervous and feels like everyone might make fun of her again.”

After an impressive return to the charts, “Blackout” has fizzled.

The pop star’s comeback album had an impressive start, almost landing at the top of the charts, just behind The Eagles long awaited album “Long Road Out of Eden.”

Yet the charts were not kind to Britney over the holiday weekend. By Wednesday morning, “Blackout” was listed at No. 77 on Amazon.com. She barely faired better on iTunes, coming in at No. 75.

On the Billboard charts, “Blackout,” continued its downward spiral, dropping 18 spots to No. 41 with 38,627 copies sold.

Britney’s new single, “Piece of Me,” has gathered some momentum, getting airplay on radio stations, but the single is only the 26th most downloaded single on iTunes.
