Did Jessica Simpson’s father, Joe Simpson, hook up the pop star and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo?
It appears Joe was the middle man who helped Romo land a date with Jessica, according to a report the New York Post.
“Joe and Tony have been friendly for a while. Joe is a huge Dallas Cowboy fan, and Tony has always had a crush on her — he even said on his Web site like a year ago that it was his dream to date her,” a source close to Jessica told the New York Post.
It appears geography also played it’s part in Jessica and Tony becoming an item.
“Jessica has been in Nashville and Dallas recording her new country album. When Tony found out, he called Joe and said, ‘I know she’s not dating anyone right now, can I take her out for a drink at least?‘ Jessica said it was OK for Joe to give Tony her number and they hit it off. They’ve been dating for a couple of weeks now, and Jessica is so happy. She’s been texting everyone about how great he is,” the source added.

Though Romo was reportedly linked to Britney Spears, Brit’s pal Alli Simms told People, “The story is untrue. Tony is a gentleman, and Britney wouldn’t do that, especially to a good friend of mine.”
A rep for Jessica declined to comment on her personal life but said, “She is happily recording her country album.”
