Jonathan Rhys Meyers sings for ‘Rush’
‘It was good fun,’ says the star of doing his own singing for the film

LOS ANGELES - Next week, “The Tudors” star Jonathan Rhys Meyers will hit the big screen in the tear-jerker, “August Rush.”
The tale of love and music finds Jonathan playing an Irish singer, who falls for Keri Russell’s character, Lyla Novacek, a talented cellist. Though he’s paired with Russell on screen, during the filming of the touching movie, Rhys Meyers was paired in the studio with a microphone — he recorded several songs for the film and its soundtrack.
“It was good fun,” Rhys Meyers told “Access Hollywood” about his studio trip. “(Music producer) Phil Ramone was fantastic.”
Two of the songs Rhys Meyers recorded appear on the soundtrack to “August Rush,” “Moondance” and “This Time.”
The Irishman said he enjoyed laying down the tracks despite the severe weather conditions in New York City the day he went into the studio.
“We had incredible blizzard here,” Rhys Meyers recalled. “It was a Sunday and just trying to make my way to the studio through Times Square — it was almost like I was starting this epic journey in the Ice Age.”
Rhys Meyers said the freezing weather helped out the in-studio mood.

“I was freezing cold out in this snowy weather in these big moon boots, and I arrive in the studio and suddenly I start to thaw out,” he said. “We recorded all the music that day and I had such energy.”
“August Rush” opens Nov. 21, and also co-stars Freddie Highmore, Robin Williams, Alex O’Laughlin and Terrence Howard.
