LOS ANGELES - From girl-next-door to red carpet glam goddess, Katie Holmes leads the pack as Us Weekly has unveiled the top 20 celebrity makeovers.

Holmes, who graces the cover of the new Us Weekly, was named the “Most Improved,” as the magazine unveiled its list of stars who look better than ever.

“When she was with Tom Cruise, she looked like a kid. Now she’s an elegant woman,” “Project Runway” style guru Tim Gunn told Us Weekly.

Sharing the cover with Holmes is country cutie Carrie Underwood, who the mag praised as having the “Sexiest New Style.”

Transitioning from a blue-jean wearing “Idol” to a full-blown designer diva, Underwood told Us Weekly she’s proud of her newfound style.

“My fashion vocabulary has expanded!” she said.

In earning her “Sexiest” moniker, Underwood also went from an “Idol” size 6 to a current size 2.

When it comes to the magazine’s “Weight Winners,” Nicole Richie, Katherine Heigl, Kelly Osbourne and Kate Bosworth made the cut for “having their best bods ever.”

While Heigl and Osbourne were recognized for shedding the flab, Bosworth and Richie received praise for adding a few pounds.

As far as young Hollywood, the magazine also named Ashley Tisdale, Hayden Panettiere and Miley Cyrus as “Best Girlie To Glam” for making the switch from sneakers to stilettos.

Other Us Weekly celebrity makeover categories included:

  • Dazzling Dos – Christina Applegate, Jennifer Morrison, Rihanna
  • From Mommy to Hot Mama – Jennifer Garner, Kate Winslet
  • Best Post-Baby Bodies – Bridget Moynahan, Tori Spelling
  • Hottest Curves – America Ferrera, Jennifer Hudson
  • Sexier Single Style – Reese Witherspoon
