Mika Brzezinski

Co-host, "Morning Joe" and msnbc anchor

Mika Brzezinski is a co-host of “Morning Joe” and an msnbc anchor.  Brzezinski also reports on “NBC Nightly News” and is an alternating news anchor for “Weekend Today.”

Prior to joining msnbc in January 2007, Brzezinski was an anchor of the “CBS Evening News Weekend Edition” and a CBS News correspondent who frequently contributed to “CBS Sunday Morning” and “60 Minutes.”  Brzezinski joined CBS News in 1997 as the anchor of “CBS News Up To The Minute,” but took a short hiatus in 2000 to co-host msnbc’s weekday afternoon program “Homepage.” In September 2001, she returned to CBS to become their principal “Ground Zero” reporter for the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.  Brzezinski began her journalism career in 1991 in Hartford, Connecticut, as a general assignment reporter at WTIC.  A year later she joined WFSB, also in Hartford, and quickly became the weekday morning anchor.

In addition to co-hosting "Morning Joe" with Joe Scarborough, I also appear on Nightly News and the Today Show.

Although I did work at MSNBC back in 2000, I spent a large part of my career at CBS, where I anchored "CBS Evening News Weekend Edition," and served as a correspondent for "CBS Sunday Morning and "60 Minutes."

When I left CBS I dove into being a full time wife and mom, and while I cherished the ample time with my children, I found myself failing miserably! After 20 years of working up to and becoming a roving reporter, correspondent and anchor, the adjustment was, let's say, a challenge. After suffering through my horrible, and I mean absolutely terrible home cooking for a few months, my husband said, "boy you better hurry up an get a job before we all get sick!"

I ended up taking a job that thought would provide "balance" for the family - a little fill-in work back at MSNBC. That is, until the network pulled the plug on Imus, and suddenly MSNBC had three hours to fill. Joe went for the job, and recruited me as sidekick. Now my children and husband don't have to be afraid of my home cooking anymore...

A native of New York City, Brzezinski is the daughter of Foreign Policy Expert and Former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski.  She attended Williams College and received a degree in English.  Brzezinski lives in Manhattan with her husband and two children.
