The Lodge at Torrey Pines for $295/nt
Even the most spoilt travelers get ‘wowed’ by the unmatched extravagance of this five-star spot located atop an ocean bluff five miles north of La Jolla. With its superb facilities and absolutely stunning décor — beautifully crafted masonry, elaborately painted glass windows and gorgeous pottery — this designer gem is, according to Frommer’s, “unsurpassed as San Diego's ultimate luxury destination, with every whim catered to by a mindful staff.” Accordingly, regular rates start at $450 a night but Orbitz offers overnights for $295!

Hyatt Regency Islandia for $159/night
Of this midrange favorite, WCities.com writes, “This compound of unique guest units is located amidst one of the most active locations in the city, Mission Bay Park. Here, you can participate in all kinds of water sports, bike, jog, parasail and depart for whale-watching or sport fishing trips from its adjacent marina.” Rooms come with seascape views; you can dine at one of the two restaurants and bars; or lounge by the outdoor pool. Orbitz offers overnights here for $159 a night, as opposed to the rack rates that run upward of $250.

Best Western Seven Seas for just $88
By far the best price-cruncher we found, this Orbitz offer features ultra-cheap stays at Best Western Seven Seas. It is one of the nondescript properties of the ubiquitous Best Western hotel chain but, according to WCities.com, “close to everything in Mission Valley, this Best Western hotel is a cut above” and with “well-maintained facilities.” Located two miles from San Diego Zoo and four miles from SeaWorld, it comes with adequate guestrooms; an outdoor pool; and, as a bonus, complimentary airport shuttle service.
