JetBlue to end flights to Columbus, Nashville
Low-cost carrier to drop service, starting early next year

COLUMBUS, Ohio - JetBlue Airways Corp. said Tuesday it will drop service to Columbus, Ohio, and Nashville, Tenn., beginning Jan. 6, ending flights to the two cities just more than a year after they started.
The New York-based low-cost carrier made the decision after a detailed review of traffic and sales trends, Chief Executive Dave Barger said in a statement.
The announcement came as the airline said Tuesday it turned a profit in the third quarter for the first time in two years.
JetBlue announced service to Nashville and Columbus in July 2006.
Flights to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport began out of Nashville in August 2006, while flights from Port Columbus International Airport to JFK and Boston's Logan International Airport began in October 2006. The Columbus flights were JetBlue's only flights to and from Ohio.
The airline has left cities before, and it has returned to cities it has left as well.
JetBlue began serving Atlanta in May 2003 and left that December, spokesman Brian Baldwin said. It dropped service to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic in March 2005 after nine months, but returned in May 2007.
Daily flights from Columbus to JFK, New York's LaGuardia Airport and Newark-Liberty continue on American, Delta, US Airways and Continental airlines. Service between Logan and Columbus continues on American and Delta.
