CHANTILLY, Va. - The ticketing and screening areas at Washington's busiest airport were evacuated for more than an hour Monday after a suspicious bag was found in the main terminal, airport officials said.

The upper level of Dulles International Airport was evacuated shortly after 3 p.m. while guards examined the piece of luggage, said Courtney Prebich, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. People were allowed back inside about an hour later, after a bomb squad determined the bag was safe.

Departure delays were expected to continue into the evening, Prebich said.
