Mission Inn Hotel & Spa, in Riverside, from $210 a night
During the winter holidays, the owners of the Mission Inn celebrate by decorating its walls with three million lights and hosting musical and dance acts, including the requisite carolers and horse-drawn carriages. Taking up a city block in the heart of Southern California's Riverside, the hotel offers 239 brightly painted rooms that evoke the Mission-style with their domed ceilings and, occasionally, stained-glass windows.
