Millions turn to msnbc.com for coverage of Minneapolis bridge collapse

Coverage solidifies leadership as multimedia news site

August 6, 2007

Msnbc.com's in-depth coverage including video from NBC News, photo slideshows, interactive features and up-to-the-minute reporting of the Minneapolis bridge collapse resulted in more than 82 million page views, making it one of the highest traffic days in site history.  The photo slideshow, continually updated with images, generated more than 26 million page views and was one of the most-searched items on the site.  Videos saw an increase in traffic, with more than 11 million streams, as of Thursday evening.  Msnbc.com's message boards also saw a significant spike in traffic with more than 23,000 bridge-related page views and nearly 900 reader comments.

Msnbc.com created an interactive map of the country enabling readers to find "structurally deficient" or "functionally obsolete" bridges that carry at least 10,000 vehicles per day.
