Signed condolence book I remember exactly where i was when Princess Diana was killed. I was in Harrogate, UK. I was listening to the news in early morning before i went to pick up my husband at the airport. We also signed a condolence book for her. And there were so many flowers around the country laid out for her. They had to actually get flowers from other countries because the UK ran out of flowers. Diana was such a wonderful person and did make alot of changes in the world and within the royal household even though she may not have known it. She also taught her childen to actually care about people rather than just be figureheads. --Anonymous , Fayetteville, NC

Burst into tears at the news A house guest got a phone call about Princess Diana's death. I could not help it; I burst into tears, and then I realized all the women in the room were crying, too; the men were shaken. I wanted so much to watch the tv but didn't want to offend my guests, but so happy to find out that every one else wanted to watch it, too. We had planned to just talk about our days together in Kuwait, but Princess Diana was definitely the topic of our day. I was just so glad that the flowers in the UK and the attention worldwide made a statement that she was loved, and that she was the Queen of our hearts...and still is. We hope that someday something will come about to show us that this was just a tragic accident. God bless her. --Anonymous , Sneads Ferry, NC

She inspired countless people I was staying with a friend in Perth, Australia when I heard the tragic news. We had flown out to attend a friend's wedding. I was out in the garden and the radio was on in the garden shed. I remember sinking to the ground in disbelief. I ran blinded by my tears back to the house to tell my mum, and Priscilla, the friend whom I was staying with. We turned on the TV and remained glued to it . We prayed , we shed tears and tried to make sense of the tragedy. The next day we bought flowers and queued in an endless line at the British High Commission to pay our respects. There was a sea of people and yet everyone patiently took turns to sign the condolence. Our hearts went out to the two young princes William and Harry . A beautiful framed photograph of Diana had been placed on a table wwhere a lit candle and a condolence book lay open. Young and old everyone of us brought flowers, candles soft toys and penned our thoughts. For days we were glued to the TV and bought all the news papers that carried reports on her death. Following her death , I stopped buying all the rags that use photos that the paparazzi take. The only magazine that I now buy is Oprah. She was as Tony Blair said truly a 'People's Princess' and that probably explains the grief that gripped the world on her death. She may have been privileged but had her share of problems and made mistakes which made her human just like the rest of us . She lent her name and fame for worthy causes. She gave a voice to issues that many shied away from and used her iconic status and fame to champion the cause of victims of land mines, Aids etc. She embraced these and began a trend in supporting charities which most others today can only try and emulate. She obviously was devoted to her sons and they have obviously inherited her spirit of helping the less fortunate as seen by the recent Concert for Diana to support the charities that Diana was patron of. She inspired countless women and her spirit lives on in those boys . --S.Rani Pillai, Singapore

Forever a beacon of hope I grew up at a time when Princess Diana’s face was on the cover of nearly every magazine. Many had bold headlines trampling her personal life and self esteem. Others placed her at the top of the fashion world and hooked readers with whispers of jealousy in high society circles. Princess Diana is now and forever will be a beacon of hope. I know this because I can’t remember a single gown that she wore. Nor can I remember the almost weekly scandals that plagued her. What I do remember is that she held babies with AIDS and she cried for the poor. She raised two beautiful boys that are shaping up to be fine men. Most of all, I remember how she made me believe that no amount of money can be a substitute for human touch. She helped me become a better human being. I love more and live more because she held her head high and followed her heart. I was twenty one when Princess Diana passed away. I was playing a card game when the news broke of the accident. My heart felt as if it would burst. I stood stock still in front of the television as more information came in. At that point in time I didn’t think that it was possible someone so magical and wonderful could die. I prayed silently for her health and recovery, but it was too late. The report came in and it was announced that Princess Diana was dead. I wept. I live in California so I had to wake very early to watch her funeral. I watched in silence and prayed that her sons would make it through such a painful tragedy. I made a promise that day to never buy anything that made a profit from her memory. Unless her sons write a book about her I will never really know the truth of who she was anyway. I guess in the end I’m okay with that. I know her for what she did and I continue to mourn the loss of such a beautiful presence in the world. --Reaca Fielder, San Jose, CA
