The deal
There are few things more delightful than a summer beach vacation. It's as all-American as apple pie, so we've rounded up five domestic destinations sure to help you get the R&R you deserve for less. Whether you prefer a secluded stretch of sand or the see-and-be-seen beach locales, there's a perfect beach vacation for you. Pick from California's Coronado Bay, St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands, a remote Maine beach, Miami, or Honolulu — starting at just $95/night.

California’s Coronado Beach for a Song
Looking for a family-friendly beach destination? We found a stellar hotel deal at Coronado Beach, a seaside resort seven miles southeast of San Diego. With its clean stretches of sand, tide pools and verdant parklands, this California spot is an ideal place to vacation with kids in tow. Plus, if you book a late-summer stay at the Edwardian-style Glorietta Bay Inn, you can save a chunk of change. Standard units start at $149/night, as opposed to the rack rate of $175. The most expensive rooms in the mansion are discounted from $275 to a low $239/night. Gayot.com describes the property as a “well maintained, very quiet and private establishment. Although each of the rooms in the mansion house is unique, they all remain traditional and romantic with high ceilings and Old World décor.” These low rates are valid for stays August 26–August 30.

Summer Romance on St. John for less
If you want to cozy up with your loved one, there’s no better place to spark up the romance than Trunk Bay on St. John. This U.S. Virgin Islands hideaway is the quintessence of the Caribbean, complete with white sands, crystal-clear water and palms swaying in the wind. This summer, you can stay at one of the island’s most unique properties while saving serious dollars. The laid-back Caneel Bay Resort offers discounted bed & breakfast rates that start at $315/night for a courtside unit, as opposed to the standard cost of $375. Oceanview rooms go for $425/night on a B&B basis, as opposed to the room-only rate of $495. Fodor’s writes, “If you want to spend your days sunning on any one of its seven gorgeous beaches, taking a kayak out for a paddle, or enjoying lingering dinners at its fine restaurants, you'll find no finer resort on St. John.”

Save serious cash at secluded Maine beach
Prefer to get away from it all and disconnect from the world on a secluded beach somewhere? We suggest you head to the northeastern seashore gem in Maine, the remote beach of Roque Bluffs located 75 miles northeast of Bar Harbor. Accessed through blueberry barrens, dense stands of boreal fir trees and a thicket of fragrant beach roses, this scenic spot features a freshwater kettle pond and an ocean-facing pebble beach with pure cobalt waters. This summer, you can enjoy the solitude of this special locale while staying at Captain Cates B&B in the nearby village of Machiasport. This cozy inn offers all the Down East hospitality of a genuine old Captain’s house plus unbeatably low rates to boot. Case in point: the antique-flavored rooms here at the height of the peak season sell for just $95/night, with breakfast.

Steal of an air-land deal to South Beach
For fun-seekers in search of serious beach action, Miami can’t be beat. Consistently voted one of the top beach cities in the U.S., this haven of oceanside fun is the ultimate scene, especially in the hip enclave of South Beach. In fact, it’s so sexy that we urge you to pack your bags and jet off to its chic bars and restaurants. Orbitz offers a last-minute air-land bargain to South Beach, now priced at just $393. This low price covers air from Atlanta and three nights at Blue Moon Hotel, a boutique three-star charmer a block away from the ocean, described by Fodor’s as "a quirky marriage of deco and Mediterranean styles." The interiors tout bags of style, while verdant courtyards come with all the tropical prerequisites — fountains, a waterfall, a spa pool, and an outdoor bar. Note that this deal is valid for June 30 departures only.

Honolulu’s Waikiki Beach for next to nothing

Another great American beach city is Honolulu, offering some of the finest Polynesian culture without losing its oceanside appeal. We recommend you get your dose of Hawaii-style fun this summer, especially because you can do so for practically peanuts. We spotted a four-night bargain on Expedia that you can book for next to nothing! Four nights at a Waikiki hotel plus air from Los Angeles at the height of summer (July 19–July 23) cost just $643. Lodging included is at Aqua Aloha Beach Hotel, just two blocks from the famous sands of Waikiki Beach. Rooms here are done in cool blues and greens and come with a/c, high-speed Internet access, and flat-screen TVs. Guests enjoy complimentary daily breakfast, newspapers, and wireless Internet access poolside and in the lobby.

The dollars
Hotel deals and packages don’t include taxes and service charges. Air-land combos are exclusive of air taxes and fees.

The catch
You’ll have to share these gorgeous strips of sand with other summer vacationers.
