EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Al Gore will rock out at the Live Earth concert at Giants Stadium on July 7, one of eight worldwide shows designed to draw attention to global warming.

"Mr. Gore will be in New Jersey. He'll be off and on (the stage), very involved," said Live Earth Founder and Executive Producer Kevin Wall.

Wall, who produced the Live 8 concerts in 2005 designed to combat poverty, also told The Star-Ledger of Newark that he would be attending the London show.

Other concerts will be held in Tokyo; Shanghai, China; Johannesburg, South Africa; Sydney, Australia; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Hamburg, Germany.

The shows will feature stars such as Madonna, the Beastie Boys, James Blunt, Rihanna, Akon and John Mayer.

A concert slated for Istanbul, Turkey, had to be scrubbed because of a lack of sponsors and interest. A large screen will be set up for viewing the concerts in other cities, Cengizhan Yeldan of Purple Concerts, the company that was organizing the Istanbul show, said Tuesday.

Yeldan has said the government was preoccupied with elections on July 22, while fears of terrorist attacks and possible protests from environmental groups were keeping many would-be sponsors away.
