Metallics have made their way onto the fashion scene, and now beauty brands are getting in on the glistening trend — adding precious metals to products both for their beauty benefits and glittery sheen. Bobbie Thomas, TODAY Style Editor and author of “The Buzz” for In Touch Weekly, highlights a few products that get gold stars for their carat-laced creations.
Face
A glowing complexion is a beauty basic that never gets old. Products infused with gold flakes, liquidized crystals and reflective pigments are helping you achieve red carpet-worthy radiance. Estee Lauder’s Re-Nutriv Intensive Softening Lotion removes impurities and smoothes the skin ($40; esteelauder.com), while La Prairie’s Radiance Concentrate Pure Gold serum plumps lines and wrinkles while exfoliating ($525; shoplaprairie.com).
And for those interested in taking the gold trend to a literal level, Umo Inc. offers a 24-carat gold facial that is designed to bring out a brighter complexion. While once only available in Japan, U.S. spa-goers can now experience this treatment at the Veronica Malibu Skin & Body Care Center in California. Spa resource Web site, SpaAddicts.com, even offers a deal associated with the facial ($400; spaaddicts.com).
For those who aren’t ready to dive face first into this precious metal makeover, a drop of makeup will give you a hint of golden beauty, too. Jane Iredale’s 24-Karat Gold Dust contains gold flakes that will sprinkle your skin with a subtle shimmer ($12; dermstore.com), while YSL’s Golden Gloss features 24-carat gold powder that will give your pout the perfect glossy gleam ($27; Nordstrom.com).
Body
Treat your body like the treasure it is, and smother it in golden goodies. The real gold particles in Carita’s Perfect Crème for the body help reduce the signs of aging and tone tired skin ($310; shop.fredsegalbeauty.com), while the Gold Leaf Collection from Linden Leaves is the ultimate in precious metal pampering ($11.95-33.95; lindenleavesusa.com). Their oil, salt and mist contain 23-carat gold speckles that are placed into the product one at a time with chopsticks! And to experience the scent of riches, try Roger & Gallet Jean Marie Farina Eau De Cologne. The perfume features 22-carat gold particles that are drenched in a citrus-y fragrance ($100; beautyexclusive.com).
Hair
Healthy hair is worth its weight in gold. The heat-conducting micronized gold in Vavoom’s new Gold Heat styling range helps protect your tresses from the damage that can be caused from too much ironing, curling or blow-drying ($13.95-15.95; matrix.com), while the gold mica particles in Redken’s leave-in smoother, UV Rescue Protective Oil, restore moisture to sun-protected hair, and provide a soft, silky finish ($12.95; redken.com). And finally, Oscar Blandi’s new Seta Polishing Cream enhances shine and leaves hair looking luminous and glowing ($19; oscarblandi.com). Designed for any hair type, even picky Goldilocks would find this glaze to be “just right!”
