The media is making too much of her public peck on the cheek of ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake at the “Shrek the Third” premiere, Cameron Diaz said Wednesday on TODAY.

The actress, 34, and Timberlake, 26, briefly stopped and embraced at the Los Angeles screening this past weekend, fueling questions and speculation about the status of their relationship. Back on Jan. 11, the two released a joint announcement stating that they were no longer dating, after four years as one of Hollywood's hottest couples.

Diaz is the voice of “Princess Fiona” in the animated movie. Timberlake provides the voice of “Artie” in the film, which will be released nationally May 18.

Diaz acknowledged that life in the public eye can be difficult, but she's handling it and is comfortable with her post-break up relationship with Timberlake.

“It's not something that you really worry about. All you want is for the person you care about to be happy,” she said. “And I think we both are. So it's easy for us to see each other, and it is easy for us to greet each other ... It's no big deal.”

Diaz said she understands the public's interest in any little tidbit about her and Timberlake.

“It's like high school, isn't it?” she told Vieira. “We as celebrities are like the popular kids. People want to know our business. It's really no big deal at all.”
