Mohsin Hamid's new novel, “The Reluctant Fundamentalist,” is currently ranked No. 6 on the New York Times bestseller list.  The novel's main character is a Pakistani man who struggles to reconcile his ties to America with his ethnic identity.  Nagging mistrust with an American character pervades and makes the story especially relevant to the to the present day political climate.

Hamid joined MSNBC.com's Will Femia on the phone to discuss his book and the state of relations between the West and the Muslim world.
