Florida pardon for Morrison gets close look
Governor asked to clear late singer convicted of exposure, obscenity in '69

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Florida's governor, Charlie Crist, is giving serious consideration to giving a posthumous pardon to Doors singer Jim Morrison.
Crist admits there is some dispute to how solid the case was against Morrison, who was convicted on charges of indecent exposure and profanity stemming from a concert in Miami in 1969.
Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek says he never saw Morrison expose himself and none of the more than 100 photos entered into evidence showed Morrison’s private parts. Manzarek says the rock legend did curse repeatedly.
Morrison appealed the convictions but died before his case could be heard.
Doors fan Dave Diamond of Dayton, Ohio, wrote to Crist last month asking for the pardon. He says it would put the focus back on Morrison’s poetry and music.
Crist says his legal team is reviewing the case.
