Toby Keith tourney to aid kids with cancer

NORMAN, Okla. - Country singer Toby Keith has announced that the charity golf tournament he sponsors will once again benefit the families of children fighting cancer.

Keith said Wednesday the fourth annual event will begin with an auction and party in downtown Oklahoma City on April 27, and continue with the golf outing the following morning.

“We throw a great party with this event every year to support these kids in their battle with cancer,” Keith said. “Soldiers come in all sizes.”

Items expected to be auctioned off are a trip to see Keith in concert in Las Vegas, memorabilia from Garth Brooks, Sammy Hagar and Bob Seger, and sports memorabilia autographed by Tiger Woods and baseball Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle.

The proceeds will benefit Ally’s House, an organization named after the daughter of Keith’s original bandmate Scott Webb. Allison Webb died in August 2003, one month before her third birthday, from a form of kidney cancer called Wilm’s tumors.

Keith and his foundation have raised more than $1.1 million to benefit the charity, which he helped establish. It helps pay for medical bills, prescriptions, housing, transportation, toys, food, clothing and other expenses for families of children with cancer.

Keith was voted favorite male artist in the country music category at the American Music Awards last year. He is among the nominees for top male vocalist at the Academy of Country Music Awards next month.
