Travel photo of the week: April 12, 2007

A mass of ice broken off the Upsala glacier floats on the waters of Lago Argentino in the Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, southwest of Argentina in the Patagonian province of Santa Cruz.

The Upsala glacier, one of the largest in the southern hemisphere, has a wall of ice of more than 197 feet above the water surface, is 37 miles long and has a total surface of 232 square miles.

According to Argentine scientist Jorge Rabassa, the Patagonian glaciers are being affected by climate change and probably by between 2020 and 2030, most of them will be gone. Click here to read more about luxury travel.
