NEW YORK - Patients at a nursing home in New York got their wake-up call and breakfast today from Democratic presidential contender John Edwards.

Edwards clocked in for the day shift, which begins at 6:30 a.m. He worked side by side with certified nursing assistant Elaine Ellis, who has worked at the Sarah Neuman Nursing Home in Mamaroneck for 18 years and makes 14 dollars an hour.

The visit by Edwards, a millionaire lawyer and former senator, is part of the "Walk a Day in My Shoes" campaign organized by the Service Employees International Union. The union is inviting all the 2008 presidential candidates to spend a day on the job with one of its members, most of whom work in hospitals and other health-care facilities.
