MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A woman was arrested after her two daughters were found stabbed to death, lying side by side in their mobile home, authorities said.
The girls, ages 8 and 5, were next to one another in a bedroom, Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel said. Police said they recovered four large bloody kitchen knives.
“It’s an extremely horrific scene,” Hackel said.
Police were called Sunday night by the 30-year-old woman’s sister after she visited the home.
“When she approached the door, the door was open already,” Hackel said. “She called her sister’s name, she came out to the door area and she explained that she had harmed the kids.”
The children were believed to have been killed sometime late Saturday or Sunday.
Three small dogs and a pet mouse were also found dead in the home about 30 miles northeast of Detroit, Hackel said. The woman, who was not identified by Hackel, suffered a self-inflicted, minor stab wound to her arm. She is cooperating with authorities.
Hackel said the woman apparently had no criminal record but may have had “some mental health issues.” Arraignment was scheduled for later Monday.
