I agree with the President. A withdrawal of American troops would lead to chaos in the middle east and would put our troops who are already over there in danger. We can't focus on past mistakes, we must progress. These brave men and women in service need our support. The President's decisions are not made lightly. If he feels this plan of action has the best chance of support, we should give it a chance.

President Bush and VP Cheney are both as big of and idiot as Rumsfeld was. Because they drug this country into and unprovoked and unjust war, the country should not follow along blindly. We tried to give them the message in the midterm elections, but they are so stupied he can't get it. They fail to realize that they is not the boss, but WE are. If Cheney was not the vice president, I'd be suprised if Bush would still be alive.

I think that although the overall tone of the speech was subdued, the President gained some of his usual bravado when speaking about Iraq and the war on terror. It was interesting to see the level of bipartisan discomfort in the audience. Talk of "victory" and success rings hollow and dishonest considering Bush, Gates and Patreus have all admitted mistakes and refer to the current situation as grave. This is no longer about victory, but instead about mitigating the damage to Iraq and the reputation of the United States.
Bush said that he has support from within the military...achieved only after having discarded any military figure who expressed concern. He threw away out of hand any of the recommendations of the Iraq Study Group. He is unwilling, or perhaps unable to process differing points of view and forges ahead to the potential detriment of his own Party.
Sadly, what became glaringly apparent is that there is no real plan for Iraq. That the war that Bush led us into has deteriorated into a much different one than anticipated and that courses needed to be altered: demonstrating a total the lack of understanding of all of the factors that would impact the waging of the war and a failure to recognize that Iraqi civilians (Shiites, sunnis and Kurds) would all want a say in the future of Iraq.
Bush referred to the "surge" as the best option. I think the bigger question is what other options were considered, if any, and if this doesn't work what next...
If Bush is counting on Maliki to make the tough decisions, and this in fact is key to any success in Iraq, why not leave the troop levels alone and hold the "independantly elected" Iraqi government accountable?
Unfortunately for the Administration, the Congress and the American and Iraqi people, there is no good plan to resolve the current conflict. The deep seeded and centuries old
battle between the shiites, sunnis and kurds will not be ended with an imposed export of democracy by the United States. Nor will a re-newed pledge by the Iraqi Government to strengthen its resolve and move to negotiate peace. We have glaring examples all over the globe of such discord amongst people of different race, creed, ethnicity...This is not a problem that more bodies on the ground will solve.
The first five minutes of his appeal for Bi-Partisanship should have been extended throughout the speech, and when he spoke of the War on Terror and especially Iraq he should have even appealed to the factions within his own Party to come together to discuss the course going forward... to invite an open-dialogue on other options...to have acknowledged that the mid-term elections meant something and he understood...
I believe many of those within the House and Senate today will be dealing with Iraq and its aftermath long after this President step down.

How long are we as a nation, going to allow Mr. Bush to keep lying to us? He stated that Iraq was harboring terrorist and was producing weapons of mass destruction. It's obvious to me the president scared our nation into this war. He purposely tied 9/11 to Iraq and knew it was a lie. The lies go on and on; why should we believe our president now?
This war is based on oil and money, nothing else.
I strongly encourage every legislator in this country to start an investigation into Mr. Bush's actions and consider impeachment proceedings.

With all due respect to the positions which our government leaders hold, I frankly have reached my limit on the constant bashing of our President. There are very few people in this country that will stand against what is ethically and morally wrong as well as have the integrity and fortitude to look into the face of enemies and refuse to back down. I have family and friends who are sacrificing their lives because they believe in this wonderful country and want to preserve our freedom and future generations. Unless those in leadership have a solution for the situation in IRAQ, they need to refrain from their ugliness and show some respect and support for a man who loves God and this country and stands by what is right regardless of the disrespect and lack of support that he receives from those who are supposed to stand beside him in preserving this Nation under God. Americans need to be on their knees praying that God will give the leadership of this country strength and wisdom when making decisions instead of hurling accusations at one man. SUPPORT our President and our Military for once and maybe we can get through this thing together.

Where do I begin.....President Bush is waging his own war. This war is all about oil and how much money HE can make and now he is sacrificing the lives of thousands American men and women, for what? If Iraq is the second largest country rich with oil, where is that money going? Why cant the Iraqi's use that money to rebuild their own country, instead of us pouring billions of dollars into this idiotic war and help those who really need it, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!! I also would like to know what happened to Osuma Bin Laden?? Wasnt he the one that lead the attacks on 9/11? I never hear anything about him anymore. He is the one that needs to be hanged. Oh I forgot, the Bin Laden family and Bush are partying together in the White House, bathing themselves in money and laughing because the American people forgot who is really responsible. See Bush thought that after 9/11, he would have the perfect reason to go and take over oil rich Iraq and brainwash the American people into thinking they were the blame for the terrorist attacks. Yes Saddam Hussein was a horrible man, but who helped fund him and his military years ago?? US!! The Iraqi's were no threat to us, but they are now, yes we need to help stablize their country, we are the ones that went in and totally destroyed it! I DO NOT agree with sending more troops over, I agree with the democrats, we need to steadily and slowly withdrawl troops. Then turn the focus on those who are the real terrorists, Bin Laden and his people. Bush has lost the respect of the American people as well as those around the world, they are laughing at us. We have been at war now for years and nothing has changed. our young men and women keep dying. Thank God the democrats are now in control! Bush is untrustworthy and I am embarrassed to have him represent this country!

Bush is an idiot, when it comes to Iraq. He doesn't have any qualifications to be a good President. We don't know why, he's been in office this long, when in fact, he cheated both times to be President. He's worthless and needs to be impeached. He's breaking all kinds of rules, including our Constitution. Why is America letting him get away with what he does. I don't care if he's President. I didn't vote for him. My vote wasn't counted because the way we vote in this country is crooked, so let's get rid of Bush. He's done enough damage to this country and we are no more safe now, than we were before 9/11. President Bush is taking care of business. Ask any U.S. soldier about the comander in chief, they will tell you the good things about our military and it's mission. Hitler would have his rear end kicked by Bush also if the times were aligned. We would be very sorry had we had a man such as Kerry, Gore, or similar. The terrorists do not like Bush, just like the liberals, and democrats. Why, because they have to hide in the dark like the rats that they are. We the people of the United States need a good military to protect us from the evil in the world, Hitler being just one of such maniacs in our world history. I too am behind our President 100+%. Most Americans only depend on the News Media for their information and then they form their "uneducated" opinion based on no research of their own. We all know that the news media portrays what sells, the negative! They all look for the news that sells! Why not start a "Positive" news that talks to the actual people in Irag and our soliders who are still signing up knowing they will have to support this war. As for me, I would challenge any of the public to try and "Please" the whole United States as President. What would you do? What type of decisions would you make? As I continue to support Predsident Bush and respect his position I also pray for our Country. As the Bible tells us 2Chronicles 7:14 "If my people who are called by my name. Will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then I will heal their land" alot of us don't even know about prayer or the real God because our nation voted to take the Bible out of school. From the beginning of our country the only book used to teach kids how to READ! was you got it "THE BIBLE"
NExt time we want to critize, try praying for our leaders and our Country instead.

I think that this was much more of the same since 9/11. President Bush is too hell bent on vengence than finding a solution to the Middle East problems.
Also, if I hear one more time that disagreeing with the President's "increase" in troops is also showing a lack of support for our troops I'll puke. I support our men and women in uniform without reservation, but that does not mean I have to support the man who put them there or his stategy for getting them back home and frankly could care less if any country takes it that way. America is still America and we should not care what others think about us. Those who would think evil about us, will do so regardless of any political message that is sent via our nations people.

Bush and Company lied us into this war. They lied to us about its progress. They lied to us about its costs. They stuck to a losing strategy long after any sane person would have seen the error of their ways and changed course. They let corporations closely aligned with Cheney and friends take tens of billions of taxpayer dollars without any real oversight, much of which cannot be accounted for. They attacked and vilified anyone who opposed them. They trashed the Constitution and its guarantees. They build secret and not-so-secret gulags just like the Soviets did. And he wants to keep on going just like he has, so far...and there are STILL people supporting this man? What in God's name does it TAKE to finally decide to throw him and his whole crew out of office and into jail, and put someone -- ANYONE, I don't care if they're Republican or Democrat so long as they can actually face reality -- in his place and get this country back on track? This is not a PLAN, it is more of the same. I think the majority of us are screaming, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. THis has nothing to do with 911, and now we have almost lost more lives of our own soldiers in this terribly mismanaged war-a misguided mistake-then we did in 911 but by our OWN HANDS. It's been YEARS and this "plan" has made our country suffer in more ways than one. The President should LISTEN to the reports, his military, and the citizens of this country and own the mistake and make a REAL PLAN to rectify this mistake and get us out. He is a public servant, serving the people of US and those soldiers who bravely serve our country every day. He needs to remember that above all else. If it is not in OUR best interest, if it is at the loss of more of our soldiers lives, then he needs to stop being stubborn, realize this Iraq war is already a FAILURE, and step up and do the right thing. BRING OUR TROOPS HOME!

Whether we agree with or disagree with the President, I am tired of the back biting comments being made by democrats, especially those running for President themselves. No wonder other factions believe they could harm the USA...our government can't even support each other. It is disheartening to read or hear a democrat say how terrible Bush is and how he has run this nation into the ground...it is pathetic and other countries hear it. Democrats can disagree all they want, but they need to be civil and supportive of our nation's leader...and the same goes for when the Republicans bash a Democrat President. Our nation is the way it is because of ALL POLITICIANS!! Not just the President of the United States...he does not have dictorial power.

"Speak softly and carry a big stick" The revionist history people out there need to review their history on Korea and Viet Nam. The second world war would never have been won with the people in congress today. Nor would Germany or Japan be anywhere near as prosperous. They are now contributing to a good world economy as well as their own. That is the hope for the middle east. Without us they will not achieve it, and Israel will be lost in the process. I am a vet and participated in Desert Storm/Shield and in no way do I not support our troops putting thier lives on the line for all of us here at home and abroad. However, with that out of the way, our President is wrong in his assumption that by raising the number of troops we have in Iraq we will ever be able to secure Bagdad. Our President has violated his oath of office, lied to the American people, went against our Constitution, and breached many of our treaties. How can we trust him in leading us through a war that we should never been in. Afghanistan yes, Iraq no. Our President needs to provide a withdrawel plan in place and force the Iraqi government to step up and take responsibility of itself; he also needs to hand out the olive branch to the countries in the middle east and get them to help provide a solution to helping solve the problems in Iraq and the rest of the middle east. This includes talking and working with Iran and Syria. We need to quit acting like the lone cowboy and start acting with responsibility and a member of a world with many beliefs and ideal views. Our President has tarnished our reputation to the point many of our close allies look at us without trust, this needs to change.

Is anyone else extremely worried that Bush (mainly through a push by Cheney) intends to expand the war to Iran and/or Syria? We have sent some warships to the Gulf already. Then, Bush spent part of his speech talking about how Shiite extremists are also terrorists, and about how we will "take the fight to the enemy". I told my husband months ago that he will attack Iran and widen the war, and he said, "Oh, he can't do that." Now, it looks as though I was right. Bush will either attack Iran, or help Israel do it. Mark my words, BUSH IS PLANNING TO EXPAND THE WAR TO IRAN AND SYRIA, AND THEN HE WILL ANNOUNCE THAT HE IS BRINGING BACK THE DRAFT! I agree that we need to impeach this guy for war crimes. To all who believe the president needs to be impeached or we pull out of the war need to wake up. It matters not what party you belong to or what side you believe in. Congress voted to go to war based on information they had. Now to know if the information was doctored or not is one thing, but to say it was a mistake is another. If you want to be mad at someone then be mad at congress. Dems and Reps both voted to go as we all know. What would be the outcome had the USA not gone to war in WW1 and WW2? I wonder why at that time we as a country were all behind the war effort and now we are not! The brave men and women who died in both wars were by far a greater number then the current war. We need to finish what we started. I am not sure how we finish or by what method, but if we do a "redeployment", to bring them home, then we as a country will be seen as cowards and can't finish what we started. I say Americans should work as one, not as parties, and get this fixed.
Now that you most of you have the party in place that you wanted in Congress it is time to PUT or SHUT up! All we heard during the campaign last year was Democrats were going to put a stop to the war and bring our troops home. Now they seem to forget what got them to the office. Telling people they would stop something and not. Look if they truly wanted to stop the war then stop the funding and end the war. No if or buts about it. Get out or shut up. Come up with a plan instead of saying Bush’s plan won’t work. If all you can give is his plan won’t work and not give anything back as your plan then shut up. Look a president can not vote to go to war on congress if you don’t know that by now then you better read up on it. If you voted against the war in the beginning in good for you, because you didn’t change your mind to suit your needs to stay or even get into office. If you voted for and now say you are against shame on you!

Only the press and potential presidential candidates believe that Iraq is uppermost in voters minds. In fact, only the majority of the people who have time to answer polls believe Iraq is uppermost in our minds. The rest of us feel that we got into this military action and we need to finish the job, period. Only old hippies think that there is some benefit to pulling out when this is not yet completed. If we are going to fight, quit trying to do it the cheap. Puting full resources to the fight will make the war safer for those who are there now, providing full backup and reinforcement to all ground troops. At home, the majority of us are worried about economic issues like the housing bubble and illegal immigration.

No matter when you leave Iraq the civil war will take place. Unless you wipe out the entire middle east.
George created the terrorists in Iraq if there really are any. Or is it just people that want their country back.
George forgets that when this country was attacked by the British the insurgents (American) fought them back. Were they terrorists?

I thought it was wonderful and the Congress needs to get out of his way and let him be "Commander in Chief". Stupidity is not an excuse, as the Senator from New York likes to say. If she didn't do her homework, (or her staff didn't do it homework.) before she voted for the war, then the fact that she is dumb, is not an excuse. I suppose the Senator will buy a "car" without checking and then blame the car salesman for "lying" to her!!
The truth is that the role of Congress is over and once the vote was done to give the President the authority, they can't take it back, there is not a "do-over" and that's too bad, if they don't like the results, but they can't micro manage a war.
If they are serious in taking responsibility, then don't do this baby boomer "power without responsibility" resolution and cut off the funds and take over the war. Then they can live with the results of their actions and have accountability.
Oh yeah.. and if that happens, pigs will fly! The truth is that they need to leave the President along and let him do his job as Commander in Chief.

LET'S REVIEW:
9/11 - primary source of attack was Afghanistan, OBL, terrorist training camps, terrorists.
War on Terror - initiated in Afghanistan, OBL, terrorist training camps, etc.
War in Iraq - started because he (BUSH) SAID, no proof to this day, that Iraq, SH, helped with 9/11 attacks and/or had WMDs, no proof of either to this day.
SO WHY IN THE HELL ARE WE THERE? BECAUSE HE (BUSH) WANTED US TO BE. (PERIOD)
There may be rumored reasons (OIL($), attempt on father, etc.) which he obviously couldn't publically say because they are not justifiable for this lost BLOOD.
I FIRMLY believe if we had stuck enitrely with Afghanistan, getting OBL, SH may not be dead but he would not have budged and everything else (IRAN, etc.) in the region would have been on notice (no action required).
AS HE SAID last night, something to the effect "WE'RE IN IT (IRAQ) soo..... something".
There has got to be an alternative to MORE OF THE SAME. HE WON'T LISTEN TO ANYBODY. BAD UPON BAD = BAD OUTCOME. GOC BLESS OUR TROOPS.

Since September 11, 2001, our right to privacy has been violated by extremist who want nothing more than to kill us. President Bush has done the best job he could with the information he has been given. Just because WMD's were not found in Iraq, does not mean that they weren't there or at least plans to make them. Were we suppose to take the word of a madman? As far as I am concerned, it is Sadam's fault we are in Iraq today, not George Bush. Now the question is how to bring this to a successful conclusion. I am willing to give this new plan for a surge a chance because generals and military minds are a lot smarter than me. I don't think they will give Iraq a blank check. I believe they will monitor and measure the amount of progress or lack there of being made. If it looks like they are not trying to help themselves, I believe another stratagey will be implemented to pull troops out. In other words, I trust the President and military leaders to assess and make the right decisions. I do have one question though. Why is it not a requirement for being President to have served in the military? Looks to me if you want to be President (Commander in Chief) you should have to have served time in National Guard, Army, Navy, Marines or Airforce. Just a thought.

We need to finish what we have started. My heart truly goes out to the families who have lossed loved ones during this war but the sacrifices will mean nothing if we do not see this conflict through. I thought the President of My Country did a good job last night. I am not a Republican and I am not a Dem. I have never been a fan of George and you can say I dislike him, BUT I know that leaving Iraq would be a huge mistake. THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is in Iraq and regardless of how we got there or what our feellings are about the war or George Bush WE UNITED have an obligation to see it through and we must keep our promises and the fight over there and not allow these ______ to have time breath or think about the hatred they have toward THE US. WE ALL KNOW THIS HATRED TO BE REAL. WE ALL have seen what this hatred has done to innocent LIVES, AMERICAN LIVES (911). I am a proud proud American. I still get chocked up listening to my national anthem and I am proud of that too! We must show our President support and pray that God gives him the knowlege to make the right choices.
Hussein tried to kill GW's father,GW senior. Did anyone ever doubt that the WMD did'nt exsist ? I would say that after invading Iraq I sort of starting to have a good spot for George. The lies bother me but that is what politics are all about so I dont mind that the President used his power to get a little revenge by invading the country that horbors murderers and the man who tried to kill his father. So now we are in Iraq. What do we do when things get ugly ? Do we turn our backs and run ? Do we blow them all up ?
Do we tear up the constitution and deport the Muslim Terrorists ?
I believe we have to shut Bagdad down from all sides and take complete forcefull control over the city and then shut the country down from all sides and prevent IRAN from funding/arming this terrorists and take our time destroying these cells and OBVIOUSLY it is going to take more man power and time..... LETS GET IT DONE RIGHT FOR ONCE....
GEORGE DID SAY SOMETHING THAT SHOULD ECHO IN EVERYONES EARS.
(IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO CHANGE THE SHAPE OF THE WAR)
THAT IS THE TRUTH AND WE ALL NEED TO KNOW THAT !
Lets all respade it together and keep the ignorate politics out of it...

I can't believe the arrogance of this guy. What does it matter what the american people want. He'll do what he wants and doesn't care about the citizens of the U.S.. His agenda has been smoke and mirrors since he came into office. Every year it's another promise. Remember social security. Where did that dissapear to? His only agenda, is terroism and fear, remember weapons of mass destruction. Iraq was always his agenda and Iran will be next. Take the money he has wasted on the war and apply that to issues at home and we would solve health care, poverty and many other issues. The american people will have to pay the debt of this presidency for generations to come. He will attack roe vs. wade in the future two years and will continue to escalate the division between christianity and other religous beliefs. remember 70% of the people in this country do not believe he is doing the right thing for the country but trust me he doesn't care and will continue to do what he wants. I believe another well timed terrosist event will happen to help propell us into another conflict that will be blamed on Iran. The middle east has been and is his only agenda. I was glad to see america awake and vote in the last election. This is no longer a government of the people for the people. Wake up america before its all gone.

No president in our nation's history has had to deal directly with a war with terrorists. He and his cabinet have done a great job keeping the terrorist attacks out of our country. He is to be commended for this. While keeping us safe from car bombs and whatever else terrorists use to kill innocent civians, ironically the economy is doing very well, even to the point that the budget can be balanced in a few years. I am concerned that the Democrats desire to withdraw troops will be interpreted as weakness and they will become bolder and eventually begin attacks on American citizens in the streets of our own cities. I think the Dems are wrong and we will not only lose the lives of our soldiers but our civilians under their plan.

Why can't the American people wake up and smell the coffee? Anybody with half a brain can see that as long as the terrorists are focusing on fighting us in Iraq, they have much greater difficulty mounting attacks here in the US. It is much more important for them to keep the Middle East unstable than to attack us here. Also, while one American life lost is too many, if you put it into perspective with the grand scheme of things, our losses in Iraq are very small if you compare them to other wars we have been involved in. And, we still have not lost as many as we did on 9-11. Granted, Iraq may not have been the ones directly involved in 9-11 but if we were not in Iraq, it is a pretty safe bet that far more American lives would have been lost only it would have happened HERE! To end this part of my comments I can only say, if you are really interested in cutting American lives lost, try working car accidents or more to the point, drunk driving accidents. We kill more Americans in one year from either one of those on thier own that we have lost in Iraq.
Now, on another front, we have done very little to secure our boarders especially with Mexico. If you are not against illegal immigration or making the immigrants register before coming here you might try thinking of it this way. Would you allow anyone from this country, let alone another one, just walk into your home when you have no idea who they are, what they want, or anything else about them? If so, why have locks on your doors, windows, or anywhere? Wake up and think just a little bit.
Health care has no easy fix but until costs of ALL areas are under control and reduced, none of this will be fixed.
Energy can be solved by drilling in Alaska, continue to work on alternative fuels, and lower gas usage.
Education is getting a little better and it will take more time but until we stop worrying about school prayer, the Pledge Of Alligence (sp), and where the Ten Commandments are posted, and start working on better testing, teaching methods, and scoring, this will be slower coming around than it has to be.
No offence is mean't to anyone by my comments but if we do not unite as a country, use some "COMMON SENSE", and focus on the more important issues, we will no longer remain a super power but just another society in chaos.

I think that our boys, and girls should come home. We are fighting a war that will never be won, and should never have been started in the first place. Our troops would better serve to tighten our own borders, and keep people from terrorist countries out of the U.S.
Busch is just increasing the U.S. death toll. Some Countries are just not evolved economically the way we are, and aren't ready for it yet. We should keep our noses out of their bussiness, and let them run their countries the way they want! If they want to commit genocide of their own race then let them. Busch has even taken all of our national guard. What happens if we have an ER here in the U.S.? Our Country has been left wide open to attack, and terrorism because everyone knows we have no defenses here. I have been no supporter of the war in Iraq from its ill-conceived beginning. That being said, our President has created a vacuum in another people's home by listening to no one but his own inner compulsions. He has at least hit upon, at least in part, the very strategy that was needed from the inception of this war in order to win it; the same strategy by which our country and its allies have ever prevailed in any war. That strategy is to play like you mean it from your first step. Our President, whether we like it or not, has created a situation that we must not, in good conscience, abandon until we have given our very best effort. We must see to the stabilization of Iraq for the sake of those whose homeland we have invaded. And let this be a hard lesson well-learned.

I think this whole war is insane. When and how will it end? I don't think war can solve core problems. War means pushing down others and using force to obtain an objective or prove a point, and this war is being treated as a "sporting event," with winners and losers prevailing. How can peace be achieved when each side is trying to prove they are more powerful? When will people learn to use words instead of weapons? Haven't we evolved as a society to find new and innovative ways to resolve conflicts with others? Terrorism is a very complex problem that needs to be resolved. I think the Democrats have a better understanding of how to communicatie politically because they use logic and reason as an alternative to reacting as the republicans do by using violence and war tactics. Our country needs new leadership if we are to grow in unity to become a nation worthy of respect by other countries. Our throops are caught in the middle of a civil war between people who have been in conflict for many many years. I would like to see this war end. The war never should have been started in the first place. We did what we could for Iraq but it is time to let them fight their own battles. War is not the answer.

Apparently, his authority arises from a sense of divine right which would equate him with those who also feel that they have the permission of god for their pursuits, the terrorists.

We should support our President and finish the job in Iraq. What kind of message are we sending to our troups and the enemy if we are a divided nation. No doubt, it will be a difficult fight ahead, but remember we are dealing with extremists with no respect for human life. They find no fault with themselves only blame the United States for their situation and are not only willing to destroy as many Americans as they can but are willing to even kill any number of their fellow countrymen and women to prove their point. President Bush is trying to protect our country from these lunatics. If we pull out of Iraq now, what message is that sending to the terrorists? They would most likely be boasting that they succeeded against the U.S. Is that truly what the average American wants and where does that leave us when they attempt to come onto our soil and attack us again? Whenever anyone has thoughts about retreating from the enemy/terreroists, I suggest you remember the vision of a plane flying into one of the twin towers in New York and both of them crumbling to the ground.

The president's speech was fantastic, but cooperation of Congress stinks. Are Democrats intelligent enough to realize that they are helping the terrorists worldwide win this war and showing the world that we are cowards and not smart enough to outsmart the terrorists? Americans, we are losing against the terrorists and we will see more and more 9/11's until we buckle completely. Our forefathers were brave and determined to save out country from all enemies. What happened to that bravery and determination? Our country is now full of terrorists supporters, whether they realize it or not, that are helping the terrorists bring our country to it's knees. They want to debate the terrorists and ask them for forgiveness and beg them to change and leave America alone. That will never work. The terrorists are determined to annilate all Americans including you and your kids. Please wake up American and do your part to defeat these psychos. You cannot reason with a psycho. They don't have the mental ability to reason. They feel that they are better off dead than leaving an American walking around on the face of this earth. What do you prefer as an American citizen; death, speaking Arabic, or saving our country for our children abd grandchildren, so they can enjoy what you and your parents had? Where would YOU be today if our forefathers thought like most Americans do today? What if Roosevelt had tried to reason with Germany and Japan? Do you think that would have worked? If you do, you are fooling yourself and you are sleeping at the wheel. Am I anti-war? Yes, I am, but war becomes necessary sometimes. None of us like it, but we need to understand that sometimes there is no other way. We gave Sadam Hussein 10-12 years to abide by the resolutions set up by the United Nations. The United Nations sat on their rears and let him get away with mass murder, steal 'oil for food' money, and train and finance terrorism. Even the UN cashed in on the easy 'oil for food' money. And France, Germany, and Russia cashed in on the easy oil. So, many people say this war is about the oil. Yes it is; keep it out of the hands of the terrorists and give it back to the Iraqis. Back out soldiers before we create another Vietnam. We need our soldiers and they need us. Get behind them before it is too late. May God bless America, but especially our military! We were once a very respected military and now it seems like radical governments laugh at us. Cut the red tape, let us kick some ass and restore our military image. You'll see how they (Radicals) will think twice in messing with the U.S. Let us finish what they(Radicals) started in Afghanistan first, while Iraq has their own Civil War. The truth is, we don't want to pull our trooops from the Middle East for the same reason we sent them there in the first place: we're protecting the balance of power in the region. That means we want to keep the people from toppling the US puppet government in Saudi Arabia, which would eventually happen because it is unpopular with the people both within that country and within the region for the very reason that it is a US puppet government. And, of course, we're concerned about allowing a new order in the Middle East because it wouldn't be favorable to Israel, and would undoubtedly result in war with Israel. This isn't about giving people a right to determine their own govenment. We say we want to spread democracy, but this is just spin. (Saudi Arabia isn't democratic.) It's about keeping a balance of power that is favorable to us and to Israel. The bottom line is that the people of the United States need to access whether we want our government to continue meddling in the affairs of other nations or whether we want to truly respect the rights of people in other countries to set up their own govenments and fight their own wars. If we decide on the latter, then we can avoid the deaths of our soldiers, but we must be willing to accept the results. I'm very glad I don't have a loved one in this war. It is not a noble war. It is a war about power and selfish interests.

WERE YOU LISTENING? IN YOUR POLL YOU ASK THE QUESTION--"THE WAR IN IRAQ"--NOT THE WAR AGAINST TERRORISM. IRAQ IS ONLY ONE IMPORTANT PHASE OF THAT WAR. IF YOU KEEP RAILING AGAINST THAT WAR YOU ARE ONLY EMBOLDENING THE FANATICS. STUDY A LITTLE ABOUT MUHAMMAD AND HIS VIOLENT HATRED AGAINST JEWS AND CHRISTIANS. WE BURY OUR HEADS IN THE SAND AND WE LEAVE A TERRIFYING SCENARIO FOR OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN. THIS IS ONLY A MOMENT IN TIME FOR THE TERROISTS.
BY FAR THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE PRESIDENT'S SPEECH WAS HIS COMMENTS ON WORLD WIDE TERROISM AND YOU DID NOT ASK THAT QUESTION. LISTEN, STUDY HISTORY, AND TAKE A LONG UNBIASED LOOK BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.
I'LL WAGER MY COMMENTS END UP IN THE WASTE CAN.

What's the deal? Why aren't the troops pulling out now? The Democrats ran a successful campaign based on this issue. Why aren't they getting it done! I'll tell you why....because it's not right. They know it...anyone with half a brain knows we need to finish the job.....or face terrible results in the future. The Dems bashed the President to meet their needs politically with 20/20 hindsight. The Dems that are still waving their cowardly flag in the name of "bringing them home", do so in a nice, safe warm and fuzzy place. We need to be a presence in the middle east forever. Not all the islamic people are bad....the good ones need to help identify the bad ones so we can help them with the irradication that needs to take place. Everyone was taught how hard it is to "change peoples' attitudes" in junior high school. The DEMS think that this is the course (OBAMA) that we should take. The only problem is that it will take TIME. The dems of course will take credit... in the future...when things start to go our way...........where as the GOP won't take any credit....they're "cash kinda guys"!!!!!! In the mean time....the war will go on (as it should).....more will die (less than if we were fighting here)....and the DEMS

I believe President Bush to be a great man of character and who has the best interest of our country at heart. How clearly I remember the political retoric and comments of unknowledgeable people (like Ms. Fonda) that interferred during the Vietnam War. As a result, our military people had their hands tied and as a result many unnecessary lives were lost and we lost credibility as a nation. If our congressional representatives allow a few loud mouths and persons without military knowledge to control the current situation, we will again have lost many unnecessary lives - all because of politics. Lets allow our President and his advisors to do their jobs. Many Iraqi lives have been saved already and their freedoms are being restored.

Enough is enough. This man has no idea how to run a country- a monkey could do a better job. Get him out of office and on his way, and, in my opinion, he should be facing a war crimes trial on his way out for the gallons of blood shed at his incompetent hand. The American people clearly do not wish to see this pointless war continue, and to be frank, neither does most the world. It isn't solving anything - get out and go back where you belong, Bush! The Iraqis don't want your "liberations"! Leave well enough alone, for once. Give peace a chance instead of demolishing it completely!

Frankly, I just don't trust him. I would like to see him impeached, along with Cheney. I think Cheney may be the real evil, and Bush is simply an idiot puppet. In November, I wondered how much more damage (to the world) they could do, considering the new Congress and Senate as well as the obvious will of the American people. However, Bush announced that he wanted to send 20,000 more troops to Iraq and again I'm feeling impotent. Not only could we apparently not stop him, but troops were already on there way there. Now we have an aircraft carrier on the way to the Middle East - to threaten Iran. I say, charge these two glorified hoodlums with war crimes to stop them and, so that this (hopefully) won't happen again.

Both said that "we should fight them there, instead of here" but neither has volunteered. I see no real committment on the part of neocons other than lip service and crafty marketing. PERHAPS I AM CONFUSED ABOUT WHAT DEMOCRACY MEANS. Politics have suken to their lowest level yet. The Democrats are all jumping on the band wagon and stating that Bush's Iraq policy won't work. I've yet to see them provide an alternative plan though, it appears they're too busy condeming the presidents that they've failed to field their own. It's time our elected officials quit pointing fingers and work together on the solution. When we went to Iraq, we had bipartisan support, unfortunately the bipartisan support jumped ship when the going got tough. They'd rather strengthen their own position rather than solve the problem. My son fought in the War and we both feel it was the correct thing to do. The country needs to pull TOGETHER to help IRAQ stand on it's own so our people can come home. (2) Most of the jobs he talks about are all in the lowest end of the pay scale and no one can support yourself much less a family on that pay. (3) Bush has sent our yong men and women die in an area that has been at war with themselves sence back in bible times it is a civil war over there not anything else but if torrorist just might have something to do with it what about the outher leaders that are running free. (4) Bush has been slowly tateing away each and every right given us by our founding fathers and no one seem to notice what is happing to us just set back and take a look view the videos of 9/11 yes planes hit the twin towers but a real close look shows explosions before the plans hit and later one can see explosins happing on floors well below where the fire and the planes hit. We now have to have a passport to travel just outside our borders what next travel papers to go see grandma? With all of the money spent on the war we should just pull out and invest half of the money into the country and mandate and control what is done with the money (i.e. rebuilding homes, factories, and roads). The terrorist in Iraq will be satisfied that the American people have convinced Bush to get out of their country and the violence will cease much sooner than we can make it happen. His statement of "give it a chance," just translates into let's see how many more Americans die for no real reason, and if it's too many he'll change his plans.

I read through all the prior comments with interest and unfortunately sadness. It's mindboggling that this administration still has supporters. This is a guy who has literally failed at every step of his life. Daddy and friends got him into and out of Yale, into and out of the National Guard, into and out of several failed businesses, and finally into the office of President even though he lost the election.
Daddy and friends (see Baker/Hamilton committee) tried to get him and us out of Iraq but I guess after ignoring his father and friends for 4 years, he just can't bring himself to use Daddy's help one more time. Unfortunately, this time our country and those poor kids are along for the ride.
Just one more comment for the "Don't retreat" crowd. Have any of you noticed that every member of congress who has actually served in combat, with the notable exception of John McCain, no longer supports Bush. Wonder if you'd be saying "Don't Retreat" if your kids were over there in this mess.

Regarding the war in Iraq, we went in due to the misinformation regarding WMDs, and found none. We removed Saddam, and toppled their government. I see only two possible actions remaining. Either annex Iraq as a territory, and govern them, or get out and let them govern themselves. If they prosper, so be it, and if they fail, that is their fate. I believe Bush was correct. I didn't vote for failure. We have not failed so far. The media fails to report accurately due to it's liberal agenda. The democrats have failed to recognize the seriousness of the war on terrorism. The American people have failed to recognize how they have been lied to by the liberal media and have failed to clearly communicate the desire for victory. If Bush made any mistake, I think it was in not requesting a bigger increase of forces and by not announcing that Iran will be next. The Islamofacists need to be squashed before they attempt to squash us. Not supporting Bush's plan would send a message to them that they will win, embolden their actions, and put our entire way of life at risk.

Just another everything seems fine, I have control and stuff I will never do speech.
Come on, I dont know if he really is a capitalist or not, but i know that his policies favor rich people to get richer and poor people to get poor. It is as simple as that. Look at his domestic policies, no child left behind policy was never funded enough, New Orlean is still a disaster, more and more people cant afford health care, big companies get huge tax breaks and many other benefits while ordinary people get mininum wage, which has not changed for the past 10 years, and one of the most important issue, oil companies are making obscene amount of money. You really think he cares about THE PEOPLE.
On his foreign policies, it is just a disaster. He is treating any one who disagrees with him as enemy. What kind of policy is that? on Iraq, he just wants the oil there and maybe his face. He is the worst, most shamelss and most arrogant president in the history of the United States. So is Dick Cheney, the worst vice president ever. Who really know what happened in 911? He destroyed evidence and made up evidence to get us into Iraq, at least thats what i believe. And all these time, he keeps on using one tactic he knows the best: to scare american people. The United States have been the most powerful country in the world since WWII. The United States have never experienced anything like 911 before. The U.S. all too used to fighting in other countries. The people have never felt immediate threat before. Since 911, Bush knows that people are scared and will continue to be scared as long as he keeps saying it is.
The bottom line is that this speech is just another speech of his. it is all talks no substance. He is not willing to change or work with democrats, unless democrats are willing to follow his lead. And that he has taken so many rights of the american people by passing patriot act and his eartapping program. What worst things he have to do to get him impeached or arrested? Look at Hitler, he was also elected by a democratic country and a free society. How has he changed Germany back in the 1930s? We should be learning from history and not repeating its mistakes. I understand that a president can be wrong and can be greedy, becuase realistically, he is just another regular person. However, when examing Bush and his background and accomplishments, he hasnt done anything right in the past six years and the only reason he becomes the president was because he had his last name. And wouldn't it make since to get a handle on the cleric Sadr and his militia? I believe that we are in a delicate situation in regards to the war, however, the Democrats proposed "redeployment" to bring troops home is not in the best interest for our nation. The word "redeployment" is just the Dems political word for withdrawal. Regardless whether the war should have been started or not is immaterial at this point. The fact is it was and we can't turn back time now. If troops are pulled out, even if it's gradual puts our nation at a greater security risks because you're basically telling terrorists they have won due to our retreat, therefore, their thinking will be that there's nothing that can stop them now. There needs to be serious discussion and cooperation with the Iraqi government on the best way to eliminate insurgent activity, including insurgents coming across the Iraqi borders, and once true progress has been made in the reduction of insurgent activity then "redeployment" (just say withdrawal) of American troops can begin. Don't leave our country in a dangerous position! One last thing I'll say is bipartisonship is a bunch of hoopla. The only bipartisanship that occurs between the oval office and congress is when one party or the other gets their way. Real bipartisonship is when BOTH sides are willing to compromise and I haven't seen that since I've been old enough to understand politics (if there is such a thing as understanding politics).

Children are being left fatherless and women are being left without their husbands. We should not have to sacrifice one more American for this bloody mess.

We should have blown up Afghanistan immediately. Too bad for the innocent.
